In a great early season college basketball game at the Lavietes Pavillion on the campus of Harvard, the Crimson squeaked past the UMass Minutemen 70-67, as Bryce Aiken’s hit a 3 pointer with under 2 seconds on the clock. The last second heave by UMass fell short and the Crimson came away with the hard fought win.
The game was a back and forth affair with no team taking more that a 4 point advantage either way. In the final minute the Crimson had a 3 point lead and UMass guard Luwane Pipkins knocked down a huge three with 7 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 58. Aiken’s ensuing drive fell short for The Crimson and both teams headed to overtime.
In overtime again it was a back and forth affair. Again the Minutemen found themselves down by 3, and Pipkins rose to the occasion again, and tied the game at 67 with a deep three pointer and 8 seconds left. This was the moment to shine for Aiken, as he hit the straight-away three for the winner.
UMass was lead by Pipkins 23 points while the Crimson were lead by Aiken’s career high 30 points.
