Top 5 Fantasy Quarterbacks in ’23-’24
Written by Jeff Demers on 06/20/2023
These are WAY TOO EARLY to do, but still fun to debate! This is my “Top 5 Fantasy Quarterbacks in ’23-24” prediction!
I’ve got Patrick Mahomes at #1, because every single time that I don’t, he is. So maybe if I put him in first, he’ll finish somewhere else and give someone else a spot on top. Or he can just do Patrick and make me look smart.
Kirk Cousins is going to jump in numbers this season. I don’t think he’ll have a choice. We know about the Delvin Cook situation at the moment, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have a running game at the moment. I’m factoring in that defenses will now have to deal with Justin Jefferson (an almost impossible task), you have K.J. Osborn who will have 6-10 TD’s to go with his 700-900 receiving yards…. oh, and then you have Jordan Addison, the 1st Round Pick (23rd overall) out of USC who is expected to be healthy by training camp.
Joe Burrow didn’t lose anyone of his top offensive weapons in the offseason. Added to arguably the best 1-2 punch with Higgins and Chase is Joe Mixon’s running ability to keep the defense honest, and he can also catch 5-7 passes out of the backfield per game.
Justin Herbert and the Chargers have enough fire power on offense to keep up with anyone else in the NFL including the Division Champion Chiefs. The Chargers are another offense that can now legitimately be seen as a 3-deep threat. That means that they have (when healthy) the veterans Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. But just like the Vikings, they went out in the first round and picked up a 3rd weapon in Quentin Johnston out of TCU. At 6’4″/215, he’s going to be a huge part in this Chargers offense in ’23-’24.
Rounding out my Top 5 is Josh Allen. I had a couple other quarterbacks that could have taken his place, but you need to account for his ability to put the ball in the end zone on the ground. He’s a threat to run anytime he wants, especially in short yardage situations. He averages 6.1 yards per rush, and about 8 rushing touchdowns per year.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Jalen Hurts: I have the Eagles to once again with the NFC East again this year and the biggest reason is Jalen Hurts. He’s got plenty of weapons at his disposal and they just added D’Andre Swift to the backfield which will make those play action deep passes to Smith and A.J. Brown more effective. And let’s not forget, they have a top 5 TE in Dallas Goedert.
Geno Smith: Are you as surprised as anyone else that the Seahawks didn’t even try to replace Smith in the offseason? Actually, they didn’t need to. What they did, was become perhaps the #1 passing offense in the NFC West now with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and now Jaxon Smith-Njigba (1st round pick out of Ohio State). Smith was already a top 10 quarterback last season with Jaxon. We may be looking at a 5k passing season for Smith, and he could be the best value at QB in the entire league for Fantasy owners.
