At eight years old, Lex Gillette started losing his eyesight. But his mother encouraged him to maintain his independence, keeping him in public schools and sports. With a natural talent for jumping, he continued to hone his skills as a co-captain on his high school track & field team. At 19 years old, Lex earned his first trip to the Paralympic Games in Athens, where he took home a silver medal. He would go on to compete in three more Paralympics and win three more silver medals. Although he has won Gold at the world championship level, he is aiming for his first Paralympic gold at his fifth games in Tokyo. Lex Gillette is a beast on the track… the only totally blind athlete in the world to eclipse the 22-foot barrier in the long jump. But he is also an amazing person off the field.
