Rockets Clinch Playoff Spot with Win Over Pelicans

NEW ORLEANS — During a weekend that is dominated by the NCAA Tournament, there was a professional basketball game being played in New Orleans on Sunday night. Two teams on the opposite ends of the playoff picture squared off in the Smoothie King Arena. The Houston Rockets came to town needing just one more win to clinch a playoff appearance for the seventh year in a row. The home town Pelicans, on the other hand, were just hoping to stop a skid of seven losses in their last eight games.

Pelicans Break Franchise Record for Single Game Points Behind Mirotic’s 36

The Smoothie King Center was back in action on Friday night as a sell-out crowd packed the arena for the New Orleans Pelicans 2018-19 home opener.

 

It was an impressive showing from New Orleanians with Friday night high school football gathering most of Louisiana’s attention and with the Saints in the middle of a probable playoff-bound season.

 

The Pels fans who turned out would not be disappointed.

 

After an impressive win in Houston on Wednesday, the Pelicans came into Friday nights’ game against the Sacramento Kings as 11 point favorites and were hoping to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2011.
