Diamondbacks Drop Opening Series Against Rockies

PHOENIX, AZ- The Arizona Diamondbacks spent the last offseason spending money like they were a team ready to contend.  They pulled off a surprising blockbuster deal that nobody thought they had a chance to do, in signing Zack Greinke.  They then went out and traded one of their top outfielders for Shelby Miller, previously with the Atlanta Braves.

With those two added to a starting lineup that showed promise last year with De La Rosa, Corbin, and Ray.  So going into the opening series with the Colorado Rockies, you would think that the Diamondbacks were set up to hit the ground running this year with some stellar pitching.

But that didn’t happen.

In game one, Zack Greinke took the mound, …

Opening Day For Last Time At Turner Field

ATLANTA, GA- As I walked into Turner Field today, I smelt something in the air I had not smelled before covering the Atlanta Braves the last couple of years. Even though I knew what it was, it still felt somewhat uncomforting. That smell was called sadness. Not as in “oh another opening day has come and gone”, or we lost a shot at the playoffs, not another popular brave being traded or signing with another team, but sadness as in that after today there are only 80 games left at Turner Field, for today is the last opening day here…ever. “King” Helio Castroneves Takes Phoenix Pole In Record Fashion

AVONDALE, Ariz. — When asked after capturing the pole if we (the media) should call him “King,” Castroneves joked back replying, “Yes, my servant, how may I help you?”  This brought a pretty big laugh from the media room.  However, all kidding aside, after crushing the previous track record held by Arie Luyendyk that stood for 20 years, Luyendyk would present the crown to Helio on pit road.  Castroneves’ speed of 192.324 shattered Luyendyk’s speed by almost a full 9 miles per hour (183.599mph).

I don’t think this was much of a surprise given that most of the cars running during the morning practice were all over Luyendyk’s speed.   In total, 18 Indy Cars qualified faster than the record pace …

Syracuse, Jim Boeheim Return To Final Four

CHICAGO–The talk throughout the 2016 NCAA tournament has been the crazy amount of upsets by lower seeds. The Midwest bracket could serve as the rule. #2 seeded Michigan State, a heavy favorite to win the NCAA tournament, was knocked off in the first round by #15 seeded Middle Tennessee. More than ? of ESPN Tournament Challenge brackets had Michigan State in the final four. The “big dance” is characterized by the “cinderella” teams, or the unexpected teams that advance. 2016 has seen the likes of Stephen F. Austin and Hawaii, both double digit seeds respectively, advance and the amazing turn of events that saw Northern Iowa blow a 10pt lead with 30 seconds remaining to Texas A&M. The general consensus …
