Habit of Winning

It is a testament to Aggie spirit that 97,000 plus fans packed Kyle Field to watch Texas A&M take on the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) on a chilly Saturday evening the week before Thanksgiving.

UAB arrived as a top 25 team with one loss. In the past these types of teams have proven to be A&M’s Achilles heal.

It took less than 20 seconds for the Aggies to score and they never looked back. The Aggie defense had no problem with the UAB offense.

Mond and the offense looked good as they easily moved the ball up and down the field.

Fans are pleasantly surprise by the emergence of tight end #81 Jace Sternberger, a Junior College transfer who …

Chasing the Tiger

It is Saturday, November 17th, 2018 and on a beautiful, crisp day in Auburn, AL there is another football game.  This week in the SEC, many of the teams have taken a break from the difficult league schedule, and are playing weaker competition.  For Auburn, they are no exception, as they are competing with Liberty University who they pummel in a 53-0 win.  It is like a preparation week for the biggest game of the year, Auburn at Alabama—“The Iron Bowl”.

Though the contest is not a big game, it is a “big day”.  It is Senior Day at Auburn.  All seniors will be honored, and included in that will be the team walk-ons. This is a day …

Virginia Tech Bounces Back with Huge Win Over #22 Duke

The Virginia Tech Hokies football program headed into Saturday night’s primetime matchup with a lot of noise. The team was coming off of a crushing loss to the Old Dominion Monarchs, where the team lost not just the game and national ranking, but also their starting quarterback Josh Jackson to injury (fractured left fibula). The team named Ryan Willis their starting QB earlier in the week. Willis, a walk-on transfer from Kansas, threw for 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions over 10 games as a starter (over two season) for a Jayhawks team that won just 2 games in his time with the program. Coming into their game against the 22ndranked Duke Blue Devils, the Hokies, and Willis, had …

Divine Providence

Chalk it up to divine providence but the walk from Northgate to Kyle Field yielded another amazing story.

A beautiful girl passed by and Chris almost broke his neck checking her out. His wife Erika laughed and started teasing him. Thinking to myself these people seemed cool I walked up and told Chris I caught him looking too but its okay because I’m a writer.

They both laughed and I asked if either had a military connection.

Both of their Dads served in the Texas National Guard and help after Hurricane Carla which until Harvey was the worst storm Texas had seen.

Then Erika told me about her Great Uncle Glen Clecker.

Glen and his buddy Harlon graduated early from …
